Pep Guardiola is hoping Kyle Walker will be fit to play in the Champions League final against Inter Milan on Saturday despite the right-back skipping training on Tuesday.

Walker was substituted late on in Manchester City’s FA Cup Final win over rivals Manchester United on Saturday, and he did not train on Tuesday due to a minor issue.

He was, though, put forward for media duty by the club, which is a positive sign and means his hopes of featuring in Saturday’s Champions League Final in Istanbul are very much alive.

Speaking on Tuesday, Guardiola said: “He had a disturbance in his back. Yesterday he was not good. Today he was a little bit better. We didn’t want to take a risk and we will see in the next days.”

Walker plays on the right of a back three in City’s current system, but while his absence at the weekend is unlikely, he does have cover in the form of Nathan Ake — something City could not have relied on in seasons past.
