Kevin Wimmer urges Tottenham to stay positive before 'big' Chelsea clash despite Champions League exit

Kevin Wimmer has urged Tottenham to stay positive ahead of Saturday's trip to face Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to Monaco on Tuesday night, ending the north Londoners' hopes of progressing to the latter stages of the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are usually defined by their defensive resilience but came up short at Stade Louis II with Hugo Lloris, arguably, the only player to emerge with his reputation enhanced.

Spurs have won just two of their last 10 games in all competitions but need to immediately motivate themselves for a clash with their London rivals at Stamford Bridge just around the corner.

Defeat in France has hit Spurs hard, according to Wimmer, but the Austrian defender is determined to put it to one side against Antonio Conte's side.

“We knew we had to win this game but we didn’t play well. It was a tough game, very difficult. We’re all disappointed that we lost," he told the club's official website.

"We have to keep our heads up because we have another big game at Chelsea on Saturday and we have to see that as the next chance to get a positive result. That’s what we’ll look for.”

While Tottenham's confidence has taken a knock ahead of their short journey across the capital Chelsea are in high spirits.

The Blues have won six top-flight games on the spin to climb to the top of the table and have not conceded a goal since losing to Arsenal in September.
