Jeff Reine-Adelaide insists he has no regrets over ending his time at Arsenal to return to Ligue 1 with Angers.

Reine-Adelaide completed his move to the French side last week after struggling to build on the initial promise that convinced Arsenal to pay £2million to sign him from Lens just after he turned 17.

Though Reine-Adelaide starred in the 2015 pre-season he struggled to establish himself in Arsene Wenger’s first team, with all of his eight senior appearances for the Gunners confined to cup competitions.

The France Under-20 international regularly trained with the Arsenal first team and was named on the Premier League substitutes bench on seven occasions in the 2016-17, but that only served to heighten the frustration for Reine-Adelaide, who was unable to impress Wenger in competitive action.

“It was hard for me to stay three years there, knowing that I was almost never playing and that I only participated in training,” he said. “It was a very complicated situation.”

Reine-Adelaide added: “It was not easy to leave Arsenal but the loan I made here last season from February to May weighed heavily.

"It’s a family club here, I needed that.”

Reine-Adelaide’s departure is part of a wider clear out of Arsenal youngsters, with Carl Jenkinson free to leave and Chuba Akpom expected to join Greek side PAOK.
