Ian Wright: I hope Arsenal absolutely smash Tottenham with 'inspirational' Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez

Standard Sport5 November 2016

Ian Wright has called on Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to inspire Arsenal to "absolutely smash" Tottenham in Sunday's north London derby.

Arsenal head into the derby three points ahead of rivals Spurs after 10 games, and level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Gunners are in a rich vein of form and unbeaten since the opening day of the season, with Ozil and Sanchez forming a devastating forward combination to inspire Arsene Wenger's side.

In contrast, Spurs are winless in six with Mauricio Pochettino's men struggling to find the net in the absence of Harry Kane.

The England international is back in Spurs' squad for the trip to Emirates Stadium, but Gunners legend Wright - second only to Thierry Henry in the club's all-time goal-scoring charts - has backed his former club to continue their fine form.

Wright told The Sun: "I really want them to hammer Spurs and absolutely smash them! Arsenal have goals in their team - they are feeling confident and flying.

"Top players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are in inspirational form. There are goals everywhere in the team.

"And because Vincent Janssen hasn’t been scoring for Tottenham, it doesn’t give Harry Kane the time to stay on the sidelines and get himself right.

"The pressure will be on Kane when he comes back because the team need to start scoring goals."

Ozil and Sanchez have both been nominated for Fifa’s Best Player award agfter missing out on the 2016 Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Sanchez is eagerly awaiting the derby but has called on his team-mates to be wary of Spurs' tactics, saying on Friday: "[The derby] is going to have everything. It'll be a high-intensity match with plenty of hustle and bustle.

"We like to dominate possession and pass the ball around, but we'll have to be wise to the counter-attack [on Sunday]."
