Hugo Lloris admitted sloppy play from Tottenham contributed to the north London side losing to Monaco on Tuesday night and seeing their Champions League dreams dashed in France.

Spurs went into their Group E game at the Stade Louis II knowing that anything other than a loss would keep alive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But Mauricio Pochettino's men faltered on the Cote d'Azur as goals from Djibril Sidibe and Thomas Lemar - the latter just 38 seconds after Harry Kane's penalty had hauled Spurs back into the contest - secured a 2-1 win for Monaco and ended Tottenham's Champions League exploits early.

However, Lloris was one shining light for Spurs as the France international first saved Radamel Falcao's 10th-minute penalty before pulling out several superb stops later in the game to keep the scorline to just 2-1.

But the goalkeeper admitted afterwards that Tottenham didn't deserve to beat Monaco because of the mistakes they made all over the pitch.

"We're very disappointed, very frustrated," Lloris said. "We started too slow and sloppy. We didn't deserve to win tonight.

"It's a big disappointment but we need to keep our chin up because we have a big game on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Monaco's Sidibe - who opened the scoring for the Ligue 1 side - labelled his team's victory, which booked their place in the round of 16, as a "beautiful" win.

"It was a beautiful evening," he told beIN Sports. "In this moment we are conquering. It was a beautiful victory.

"We are happy and we hope that we continue on [in the Champions League]."

When then asked about his goal, the 24-year-old replied: "My goal was important. [But] the aim was to qualify, that was the first and most important thing."
