Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed Kyle Walker-Peters will miss Southampton’s clash against Arsenal after the full-back suffered a “big injury” in the win over Bournemouth.

The Saints ended their six-match winless run with victory over their rivals, in doing so keeping their first clean sheet since April to help ease the pressure on their manager.

During the second-half of that match, Walker-Peters was forced off and it has now emerged that the 25-year-old has suffered a serious hamstring injury as he faces a long spell on the sidelines.

It adds to Southampton’s injury problems ahead of Arsenal’s visit to St Mary’s on Sunday, with Armel Bella-Kotchap, Tino Livramento and Romeo Lavia already out, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles not available against his parent club.

“It was an important result for us, an important win no question,” Hasenhuttl said of the win over Bournemouth in his pre-match conference on Friday.

“It lifts us over the line after the last games we haven’t won. This is the positive thing.

“The negative thing is that we have another big injury that costs us a player for a long time out.

“Kyle Walker-Peters is the next one that we will definitely lose in a position that we don’t have a lot of alternatives, so we are happy about the points but not so happy about losing another player.”

He added: “We will see how long, there is a lot of blood. It was him trying to make a big step to stop the ball.”
