Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has said Harry Kane will be available to face Manchester City on the opening day of the season.

Kane is currently isolating at Tottenham’s Enfield training base following his belated return to the club and will not be able to join group training until Thursday, leaving him with limited time to prepare for City’s visit on Sunday afternoon.

There is also the question of whether Kane will be mentally ready to play against City while he is desperate to force his way out of Spurs to join the Premier League champions.

But asked by Sky Sports about Kane’s availability for the match, Nuno said: “All the players in the squad that work on a daily basis will be options for us, then it’s up to us to decide.”

Nuno is still yet to speak to Kane since his appointment as Spurs boss in June but has said he will hold “socially distanced” talks with the England captain at the training ground later on Monday.

The Portuguese says everyone involved in the situation is working to “solve” the problem of Kane’s unhappiness.

“First of all we have to speak,” Nuno said. “This is going to happen today, and after that we hope to solve all the situations.

“It’s not about that (Kane’s late return), it’s about what we have to do to solve the situation – this is important.

“We have to solve it together, everybody involved has to solve it together – speaking, having a nice conversation and putting our opinions, but everybody together.”

Kane was initially due back at Spurs on Monday, August 2 but did not return from holidays in the Bahamas and Florida until Saturday.

He has denied that he refused to train and says he reported to the club this weekend “as planned” – but has refused to go into specifics over the confusion relating to his return.
