Fulham close in on Aleksandar Mitrovic and Alfie Mawson to take summer spending beyond £75m

Fulham are ready to take their summer spending to more than £75million this week by signing Aleksandar Mitrovic and Alfie Mawson.

Mitrovic is due in London to finally seal a permanent transfer from Newcastle United for around £20m and Fulham also want to complete a £22m deal for Mawson from Swansea City.

Fulham have already splashed out £35m on Jean Michael Seri, Maxime Le Marchand and Fabri, while Andre Schurrle has also joined on loan in what has been a good summer for the Cottagers after they secured promotion to the Premier League.

Owner Shahid Khan has backed Slavisa Jokanovic in the transfer market and the arrivals of Mitrovic and Mawson would be another clear statement about their ambition this season.

Fulham have agreed personal terms with Mitrovic and have now reached an agreement with Newcastle for the 23-year-old Serbia striker.

Mawson, the 24-year-old defender who started his career at Brentford, has expressed a desire to a return to London and is keen to join Fulham despite interest from Burnley.

Swansea need to offload Mawson following their relegation and hope a deal is finalised so they can press ahead with bringing in their own transfer targets.

Mawson was a target for West Ham earlier this summer. The centre-back was called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate in March but he has yet to represent his country and minor knee surgery ruled out any possibility of him being selected for the World Cup.

He joined Swansea from Barnsley for £5m in August 2016, a year after he had left Brentford.

Mitrovic scored 12 goals for Fulham in the Championship last season after he joined on loan in January and has said he has played the best football of his career under Jokanovic.

Jokanovic made Mitrovic one of his top transfer targets this summer and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed the player will move to Craven Cottage.

Benitez said: “He has an agreement with Fulham and I wish him all the best. Hopefully he can score a lot of goals, but not against us. But it [the transfer] is something we were expecting.
