Fernando Torres concentrating on Spain despite reports he may sign for rival Premier League club

11 April 2012

Fernando Torres said he will put talks with new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson about his future on hold until after the World Cup after reports that he could sign for a rival Premier League club.

Torres has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with the player's agent telling the Daily Mail he may remain in England.

"It is very likely Fernando Torres will stay in the Premier League but I cannot say whether that will be with Liverpool", José Antonio Martin told the paper.

The Spain striker welcomed the appointment of former Fulham boss Hodgson as Rafael Benitez's successor but is concentrating on Spain's bid to win the World Cup before speaking with him.

Torres said: "I was happy he (Hodgson) got the job. I haven't had a chat with him yet but I will talk with him soon and we will see his ideas about the future.

"For now, my future is here. South Africa and the World Cup is too important to think about things after that.

"I have a very important week still here and after that I will have time to talk with him and talk about my future."
