England Under-21s will play holders Sweden, hosts Poland and Slovakia at Euro 2017 next summer.

The Young Lions have been placed in Group A after the draw for the tournament was made on Thursday in Krakow.

The Group A matches will take place in Kielce and Lublin, with the competition starting on June 16 and the final in Krakow on June 30.

England, who have qualified for the last six tournaments, will be aiming to avoid a repeat of their disappointing Euro 2015 campaign when they failed to get out of the group after winning just one of their three games.

The tournament has been expanded to 12 teams for the first time and the Young Lions were in pot two of the draw with Spain and Denmark, with Germany and Portugal top seeds.

The Football Association now need to make an appointment after former Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate was named as senior manager on a four-year contract on Wednesday.

Interim boss Aidy Boothroyd attended the draw after he took over for their final two qualifying games, beating Kazakhstan and Bosnia, as unbeaten England topped Group Nine.

Boothroyd stepped up from managing the Under-20s and won three and lost one of his four matches, suffering a 3-2 friendly defeat to France in his final game last month.
