Erik ten Hag: Manchester United are building towards ending trophy drought

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are “building” towards winning trophies after a brilliant week in cup competitions.

While the Dutchman was critical of his team following the Premier League loss to Arsenal that seemingly ended their hopes a title challenge, United have made progress in the few days since.

Already, they have one foot in the Carabao Cup final after beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the first-leg, while Friday saw United overcome Reading to reach the FA Cup fifth-round.

United are currently on their longest run without a trophy in 40 years, last lifting silverware in 2017 in the form of the League Cup and the Europa League.

While a top four finish feels equally as important to ten Hag in his first season at the club, ending that hoodoo would be some statement.

"We are here for trophies but we have a long way to go,” said ten Hag.

“We’re building."
