England need Theo Walcott to recreate Arsenal form - Danny Murphy

Theo Walcott is finally reaching the level for Arsenal that I expected him to hit years ago and there is no reason he cannot do the same for England.

I have always liked Theo — not least because he was a boyhood Liverpool fan! He has always come across as a calm and humble character who is never in the limelight for the wrong reasons.

I asked him for his shirt after one game, for an Arsenal-supporting friend. To my surprise, he asked me for mine. I had assumed he wouldn’t want it. Only then did I discover he had supported Liverpool as a boy. He is showing his qualities now. His pace means no back four will want to defend too high and he is coming off the flank, getting into the box and scoring goals. He is the kind of player who can be a regular scorer, reaching double figures in goals and assists.

As things stand, he definitely gets in Arsenal’s best XI — probably England’s, too.
