Harry Kane labelled his last-gasp equaliser against Scotland on Saturday as "special" as the Tottenham striker rescued a point for England on his first outing as Three Lions captain.

England manager Gareth Southgate had opted to pick Kane, 23, as his skipper for the World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park in the absence of Wayne Rooney and the Spurs star proved crucial as the visitors came from behind to secure a late 2-2 draw.

Substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had opened the scoring in the 70th minute, but Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths netted two superb free kicks within the space of three minutes to turn the Group F game on its head.

However, Kane had the final say when he fired the ball into the back of the net in the 93rd minute and, after the match, the England captain admitted securing a point - and as skipper - was "special" and emphasised just how important the point to the team's World Cup qualifying hopes.

Speaking to ITV, Kane said: "It is a special day. To be 2-1 down in stoppage time, to get that goal is special.

"I was trying to get a good contact on it and side-footed into the net.

"You have to expect the unexpected and we were 2-1 down from nowhere but we found another gear.

"It is a good point away from home. Scotland is no easy place to come."
