Discipline and doggedness key to Charlton win

28 November 2012

Charlton manager Chris Powell admitted last night's 2-0 scoreline was harsh on Peterborough, but praised his side after they eked out victory in south London.

Posh dominated second-half proceedings and looked more likely to win until Ricardo Fuller's sucker punch 13 minutes from time.

The Jamaican's moment of magic put the Addicks ahead and Yann Kermorgant ensured three points by prodding home in the 85th minute,

Charlton have now taken 13 points from their past five matches and manager Powell (above) was pleased by the result, if not the performance.

"There is going to be time when we are going to play better and not get much in return," he said. "I'll definitely take this. We've been thin on the ground at home, but we got a clean sheet.

"We have 13 points out of the last 15 so I can't complain. We've played better this year and lost so it is about time.

"Over the course of the season sometimes you might not merit the win, but because of your discipline and doggedness, which we needed this evening, you get wins."

The only negative for the Addicks was the fact Fuller limped off straight after his 25-yard effort.

"We certainly needed something like that to break the deadlock this evening," Powell added. "He just felt his hamstring again [so had to come off]. That is the story of our season so far.

"We'll monitor him and see tomorrow or Thursday. Hopefully it will settle down. I don't think it has completely gone. He has problems, obviously in that area this season.

"We've got to make sure we do our best to get him out on that pitch more often than not."
