Diego Costa is prioritising a place in Spain's World Cup squad as he considers his Chelsea future this summer.

Costa surprisingly revealed after the defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup Final that he could stay at Stamford Bridge and that the only club he would leave for now is former club Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea insiders had been under the impression leading up to the game that his appearance at Wembley would be the 28-year-old's last in a blue shirt and that a move to China, where he could earn in excess of £570,000-a-week, was most likely.

But Costa, who has two years left on his contract worth £150,000-a-week, has appeared to do a U-turn and has playing for Spain at the World Cup on his mind.

He said: "At no point have I said anything or that I want to leave. I hope I can carry on playing, there is a World Cup next year and I hope to be there.

"Now is not the right time to go to China. The Chinese Super League is growing but like I said my intention is to play in the World Cup.

"There are possibilities if I carry on playing and scoring (at the highest level). I know it's not easy with the Spain squad but I'm still young so I either stay here or go back to Atletico."

It has been suggested that Costa is about to be sign a new contract at Chelsea, but that has yet to be decided.

Standard Sport revealed in February that initial talks had taken place, but nothing was agreed.

Costa, who has scored 58 goals for Chelsea since joining from Atletico for £32m in 2014, was pictured in a restaurant meeting with agent Jorge Mendes and some unnamed businessmen that were allegedly connected to Tianjin Quanjian earlier this month.

But Costa added: "That has nothing to do with it, it's someone I was meeting with. There were other people there, my agent knows I have contact with other people. Every time people see me having dinner with someone they think it has to do with football."

Antonio Conte is looking at making six signings, with striker Romelu Lukaku, defender Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko three of their main targets.

The club will still look to buy Lukaku, even if Diego Costa stays at the club, because Conte is reconsidering playing with two up front next term, but wants more strength in depth anyway.
