Didier Deschamps has hit back at Arsene Wenger in a row over Abou Diaby playing for France.

The midfielder started the season in fine form but is now out for three weeks after damaging his thigh against Chelsea last Saturday.

Arsenal manager Wenger claimed that Diaby, given his long injury record, should not have been called up by Deschamps for last month’s World Cup qualifiers against Finland and Belarus.

However, the France boss said today: “I want to remind him that I am the only one to decide who will be picked and how long those who are picked will play. There is only one who can decide and it’s me.”

Diaby scored the winner against Finland but did not feature in the match with Belarus.
