Crystal Palace fly to Spain for a warm-weather training camp this week in a move Alan Pardew hopes will help arrest their alarming slump.

Palace are without a win in nine Premier League matches and have dropped to 13th after their latest setback, a 2-1 defeat against Watford.

They travel to Tottenham in the FA Cup on Sunday and Pardew has decided to take his squad away ahead of the fifth-round tie at White Hart Lane.

“It might change the mood a little bit,” he said following the club’s disastrous run of fom.

Steve Coppell used a similar strategy when he guided a Palace side that included Pardew to the 1990 FA Cup final.

“We used to go away for a week,” said the current Palace manager. “It was a good experience for us and hopefully it will be the same for my players.”

Yannick Bolasie will be part of the squad that travels to Spain, and Pardew hopes the winger will be fit to return from his hip injury on Sunday.

Palace defender Scott Dann added: “Hopefully a chance of scenery will do us the world of good.”
