Crystal Palace are facing competition from Schalke for the loan signing of Dominic Solanke from Liverpool.

Palace looked close to securing a deal to bring Solanke to Selhurst Park for the remainder of the season but the German club have registered a late interest in the 21-year-old.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson had hoped Solanke would sign early in the transfer window but the England Under-21 forward was today still weighing up his options. Palace were not expected to complete a deal for him before their game at Wolves tonight.

Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has a close relationship with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, having worked with him at Mainz. Brighton were also interested but Solanke was thought to prefer Palace.
