Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Player Ratings: Controversial Benteke shines as McCarthy costs Eagles

Christian Benteke's late penalty ensured Crystal Palace's winless Premier League extended to 12 games as Liverpool left Selhurst Park with a 2-1 victory on Sunday.

Substitute Benteke struck from the spot after being fouled by Damien Delaney, and coolly stroked the ball past Alex McCarthy to hand Jurgen Klopp's side all three points.

Palace were in a fine position to win the game after Joe Ledley had given the Eagles an early second-half lead, with James Milner receiving his marching orders for a second yellow card on the hour.

Despite Liverpool going down to 10 men, they found a way back into the game after Palace goalkeeper McCarthy slipped while making a routine clearance to let in Roberto Firmino for a simple equaliser 18 minutes from time.

As both sides pressed for a winner in the closing stages, Benteke earned and won the penalty to complete a hard-fought comeback for Liverpool and increase the pressure on Palace manager Alan Pardew.
