Christian Benteke has confirmed that he will not be available for Crystal Palace’s crucial trip to Bournemouth on Saturday after failing to shake off a groin injury.

“Really disappointed I can't be out there helping the team tomorrow," Benteke wrote on Twitter.

“I picked up a slight injury in training that shouldn't keep me out for long. The timing is frustrating but I'm sure the boys will bring three points home!”

Palace boss Roy Hodgson could now find himself without a recognised striker for the game. Alexander Sorloth is still sidelined with the hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the last two matches.

Connor Wickham’s return after nearly 18 months on the sidelines was delayed last week after he strained his groin and it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old is ready to return to the Premier League having so far only featured in the Under-23s.

Bakary Sako has filled in as a centre forward on occasion this season but is out until next term after suffering a broken ankle, meaning Wilfried Zaha may be asked to lead the Palace line as they battle to retain their Premier League status.

The 17th-placed Eagles are two points clear of Southampton and the relegation zone.
