Brothers Danny and Nicky Cowley have emerged as strong contenders for the AFC Wimbledon job.

The Dons are on the hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Glyn Hodges over the weekend following a 2-0 defeat to rivals MK Dons.

Wimbledon, who are in the League One relegation zone and without a win since December 2, are drawing up a shortlist of potential replacement and Standard Sport understands the Cowley brothers are in the frame.

Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes has also been linked with the post but it is understood that as yet no approach has been made for her.

Former Crystal Palace and West Ham manager Alan Pardew is also interested in the job.

Pardew, who is currently working in Bulgaria where he is technical director at CSKA Sofia, is from Wimbledon and helped the club in their recruitment process when they appointed Wally Downes in 2018.

The Cowley brothers made their name at Lincoln City, who they led them to an FA Cup quarter-final in 2017, and have been out of work since leaving Huddersfield Town last year.

Manager Danny and his assistant Nicky took over at Huddersfield in 2019 with the team 23rd in the Championship, but they turned things around to keep the club up.

They could be attracted to the challenge of rebuilding Wimbledon - particularly at their new home of Plough Lane - but agreeing terms and wages will be key given the pair’s last job was for a recently relegated Premier League club.

Mark Robinson, who is Wimbledon’s lead professional phase coach and loans manager, has been placed in interim charge of first-team duties and is well respected within the club.

As a result, he could state a case to keep hold of the job until the end of the season if he is able to turn results around.
