Antonio Conte has blasted Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero for his ‘dangerous’ tackle on David Luiz and admitted he was ‘scared’ the Chelsea defender had suffered a major injury.

Aguero was sent off near the end of Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Manchester City last week after a horrific two-footed lunge on the Brazil international.

Luiz was seen limping onto the team coach with strapping on his left knee, although he told Standard Sport that he expected to play against West Brom on Sunday.

Conte says Luiz will face a late fitness test on Saturday to check whether he is able to feature, but the Chelsea coach is just relieved he didn’t suffer more serious damage.

He said: “I have to check tomorrow if David Luiz is able to play on Sunday because, after this tackle... this tackle was very bad. And I have to check on his recovery from his injury.

“It will be very important tomorrow for him and for me to decide whether he's able to play on Sunday.

"That tackle was dangerous, for sure. I watched the images and I was afraid (he might be injured). I was scared. He's trying to recover from this tackle.”

When asked if he realised at the time how bad Aguero’s challenge was, he added: “Only after I saw the replays. That's when I saw this was very dangerous for David Luiz, yes.”
