Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has arrived for his Atletico Madrid medical, as he looks to seal a loan move into the end of the season.

Morata is set to seal a return to the club where he started playing as a child after Chelsea brought in Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus on a similar deal.

On Sunday morning, Morata told reporters: "I’m happy to be in Madrid. I’ve been waiting for many days.

"I still need final authorization but I am very happy and eager for this be a done deal so I can train with my teammates."

He added: "People who know where I come from know my story and what this means to me. The past is the past and I am very proud of it too. "

The move will end an unhappy 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea's record signing.

Maurizio Sarri has preferred Eden Hazard in a false nine role in recent weeks with Morata last scoring in the Premier League back in November.
