Chelsea and Liverpool transfer target Alex Teixeira has admitted he wants to leave Shakhtar Donetsk for Jurgen Klopp's side, but concedes a January move to Anfield will be up to the Ukrainian club's president.

Standard Sport understands that Teixeira has been top of Chelsea's wishlist for some time now, and the club had been hoping to complete a deal for the Brazilian either this month or in the summer.

However, Liverpool emerged as surprise suitors for the 26-year-old last week when the club's chief executive Ian Ayre flew to the USA, where Shakhtar were playing in the Florida Cup, to begin negotiations over a move.

It is believed that Liverpool had an opening bid of £23million rejected by Shakhtar for Teixeira before the player admitted he wants to play in the Premier League - but denied he had already given assurances to the Reds or Chelsea about where his next club will be.

But in a new video interview with Anfield HQ, the Brazilian has revealed he still hopes of signing for Liverpool in the coming months and admitted his agent is working on a possible deal despite Shakhtar rebuffing the English side's opening offer.

"The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected. I don't know why. It was a great offer. It is frustrating. But the manager and club president decided against it. So now I'm just waiting. Trying to be patient," he told Anfield HQ.

"It is a huge club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.

"I've played with [Philippe] Coutinho since we were 10 years old. It would be a lot of fun to play with him again."

When asked whether he was confident of sealing a switch to Liverpool this month, Teixeira said: "I don't know. It's tough to answer that. I want to be there. It's up to the club president. I can only hope.

"There's only been one offer. 32 million euros, and Shakhtar rejected it. I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool."

After being questioned about what qualities he could bring to Liverpool should he join the club, Teixeira added: "The way I play, is always looking to score. I could definitely add an attacking threat. Especially if I'm paired with all of the talented players they already have on the squad.

"For me it [the Premier League] is the best league in the world. I believe in myself, and I feel that would be the best move for my career.

"I've reached an age, 26 years old, in which I'm really looking to break into the Brazil team. 2018 may be the last World Cup I have a chance to play in, so I want to go to a big club and show what I can do at the highest level, and hopefully be selected for Brazil."
