Chelsea are considering ending Holland midfielder Marco van Ginkel’s season-long loan to AC Milan early due to a lack of playing time at the Serie A club.
The Blues are furious that the talented Dutchman has made just one appearance for the club so far, although that is partly due to an ankle problem he picked up on his debut against Empoli.
Van Ginkel joined Chelsea from Vitesse Arnhem for £9million in 2013, only to suffer a serious knee ligament injury just a month into last season.
Manager Jose Mourinho wanted him to play regular first-team football this term, something he could not guarantee at Stamford Bridge.
But AC Milan have ignored him since he returned to fitness and Chelsea are already looking to loan him out elsewhere for the second half of the season.
The 21-year-old’s agent Karel Jansen said: “The build-up in the beginning at Milan was good. Marco began the season on the bench and it was expected as he was getting used to a new club and country. But even after he recovered from the injury he has had very little time on the pitch.
“We were not happy about it and it went against all logic.
“We made it clear that this was not the intention when he joined on loan. Marco did not have to go to Italy and do nothing. Look, if he wasn’t very good, this treatment was understandable but a fit Van Ginkel would walk into the Milan side.
“Chelsea have not pulled the plug but they might if the current situation continues.”
