Anthony Gordon to Chelsea transfer unlikely as Frank Lampard insists deal deadline has now passed

Everton manager Frank Lampard insists that the deadline to sell star winger Anthony Gordon has passed, leaving Chelsea potentially disappointed to miss out on another transfer target.

The Blues are known to have had two bids worth up to £45million rejected for the forward, who has now scored in successive Premier League games.

After his side's 1-1 draw at Leeds, Chelsea legend Lampard said he was now “very confident” of keeping Gordon beyond Thursday night’s transfer deadline.

"He's too important a player and I think he showed his worth in the last two games," Lampard said at Elland Road.

"And with two days now to go [until the transfer window closes], what good would it do us to do anything with Anthony? On a bigger picture than that, he is our player who we've developed and there's an affiliation with him and the fans and vice versa.

"Clearly, the interest has been there because he's a top player. And that's why we're so keen to keep him."

The 21-year-old is now said to be in negotiations about extending his deal at Goodison Park, following the substantial interest from Chelsea.
