Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly says he understands the frustration among fans, but has called for patience with the long-term project at Stamford Bridge.

Boehly has been heavily criticised by supporters during a difficult two years since he bought Chelsea alongside Clearlake Capital.

The Blues are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League despite spending more than £1billion in the transfer market.

Chelsea’s owners have been warned they face “organised and impactful forms of protest” from angry supporters who feel the club has become a “laughing stock”.

Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have also been told by the Chelsea Supporters Trust’ that they risk the threat of “irreversible toxicity” if the situation at Stamford Bridge does not improve.

In an interview with Forbes, Boehly said: “The good news is people care so much. And the bad news is people care so much.

“That leads to times when they’re frustrated with the team and the owners. I get that, but we just have to continue to stay the course.”

Boehly insisted the young players at Chelsea will come good and said: “We just need to let the process develop and give them the time to go from being unbelievable individual players with great skills to fold into a team.”
