Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana interest could force Trevoh Chalobah out as Brighton register Billy Gilmour interest

Chelsea’s interest in Wesley Fofana could force Trevoh Chalobah to look for a summer exit, while Brighton have confirmed a desire to sign wantaway midfielder Billy Gilmour.

The Blues remain in talks with Leicester over signing the 21-year-old but are taking a cautious approach as they try not to break the world record £80million fee paid for a defender, which was set by Manchester United when signing Harry Maguire from the Foxes three years ago.

The arrival of Fofana could impact a host of defenders at Chelsea, with Chalobah expected to ask for a move away if Chelsea sign another central defender.

Ethan Ampadu’s potential exit is currently blocked until a defender comes in but he has offers from Empoli, Spezia and a host of other top-flight overseas clubs.

Marcos Alonso has a transfer on the table from Barcelona but they remain unable to register him due to financial problems. The Spain international returned to training with the Under-21s yesterday but is still set to leave.

Gilmour is another who wants to leave, having not been given a squad number and after being frozen out of the first-team squad, and Brighton are interested in a permanent deal.

West Ham’s approach for Emerson Palmieri collapsed at the final hour over personal terms after a £13m plus £2m in add-ons fee was on the verge of being agreed. Atalanta and Nottingham Forest also have interest in the Italy international.

The Hammers remain interested in any possible loan moves for Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja, but both players are currently expected to stay at Chelsea this season.

Gallagher has further interest from Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace over a season-long loan deal.

Michy Batshuayi, Ross Barkley and Kenedy are also looking for moves away. Baba Rahman is deciding his own future with two permanent offers on the table from Championship clubs.
