Chelsea fans will probably find it hard to remember a time without their iconic club captain John Terry in the team but, 18 years to the day since his debut, the defender has taken a trip down memory lane to hail his first outing as a Blues player.

Terry took to his Instagram account on Friday morning to mark the day he made his debut for Chelsea 18 years ago in a 4-1 win over Aston Villa.

The centre-back, who has been at the club since the age of 14, made his first appearance as a substitute in the game on 28 October 1998 after rising through the academy side.

Terry subsequently went on to cement his place in the starting XI before Jose Mourinho's arrival at the club in 2004 marked the beginning of his long tenure as captain.

Now 35 and still at Chelsea, Terry is the club's most successful skipper having won every major honour with the Blues.

Writing on his Instagram account alongside a picture from his debut 18 years ago, Terry said: "On this day 28/10/1998 I made my debut for @chelseafc.

"Dreams can come true and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise."

Chelsea also fans praised and congratulated Terry on social media for his long and successful career at Chelsea to date.
