Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wary of 'angry' Liverpool after title rivals suffer three defeats at Anfield

Antonio Conte has warned Chelsea to beware of a wounded Liverpool as he prepares to take his side to Anfield on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have suffered three straight defeats at home, crashing out of both domestic cups to Southampton and Wolves and seeing their title bid take a major blow with a loss to Swansea.

A fourth against Chelsea would surely end Liverpool’s lingering hopes of a first league crown since 1990, whilst reaffirming Antonio Conte’s status as the one to catch at the top of the table.

But the Italian, whose side claimed a fourth straight win 4-0 at home to Brentford in the fourth round of the FA Cup, expects an “angry” Liverpool to offer his side a firm test.

“Liverpool is a very tough game for us because their focus will be very high,” Conte told reporters.

“When you play at Anfield it’s very difficult for teams. After three defeats you are very angry, and we must know this.

“We have to play our football with good intensity and then we will see what happens.”

Victory over Liverpool and Arsenal in the coming days would surely be enough to see Chelsea crowned champions, a far cry from September, when back-to-back defeats against the pair had a furious Conte admitting he could not find the solution for the Blues’ woes.

“If you remember, after that game [last September], I said that Liverpool is already a team and Chelsea is not a team,” Conte added. “After four months, a lot of things are changed in my team. We are growing a lot, improving a lot.

“We have a good confidence. I think that it will be more difficult for Liverpool if you compare the last game at Stamford Bridge with this game at Anfield.”
