Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

The club have been searching for a new striker and, having missed out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, appear to have now landed a replacement after the club revealed Morata will undergo a medical before agreeing personal terms with the Premier League champions.

Despite mainly being used off the bench and as an understudy to Karim Benzema, the Spanish striker scored 23 goals for Real Madrid last season, including 15 in La Liga.

He had returned to the Bernabeu last year after a two-year spell at Juventus, where he had played under Max Allegri, who had replaced Antonio Conte as their manager.

He has been capped 21 times for Spain, and was included in their most recent squad for games against Colombia and Macedonia in June. He also scored three times in their four games at Euro 2016.

Morata looks set to replace Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge and will hope to play a key role in Chelsea’s title defence.
