Charlton would miss out on a much-needed £3million windfall if Everton manager Marco Silva gets his way and keeps Ademola Lookman.

The 20-year-old striker has been linked with a £28m move to RB Leipzig, where he spent part of last season on loan, and Charlton would be in line for 15 per cent of any profit on the £7.5m deal which saw him move to Goodison Park in 2017.

The money would be crucial for Charlton at a time when the club are refusing to pay staff bonuses because of their poor financial situation, with the dispute between them and multi-millionaire Belgian owner Roland Duchatelet becoming increasingly bitter. But yesterday, Silva said: “He is our player. You know what my technical opinion of the player is and the player knows. For me it is not an issue. I understand some clubs are interested in him but he is the present and the future of this club and we have to try to convince him to go in this way as well.”

It is possible Everton’s owners may still be willing to sell Lookman as the transfer window is open for European clubs until the end of the month. Lookman, who impressed in the Bundesliga last year, came through the academy at Charlton and made 49 appearances for the club.

At The Valley tomorrow, meanwhile, two of the most combustible personalities in the game meet on the touchline when Lee Bowyer and Joey Barton go head-to-head.

Bowyer and Barton were confrontational characters in their playing days and, while both men have now matured, there is the potential for fireworks in the dugouts when Charlton play Fleetwood. Bowyer demonstrated his fiery temperament when he launched a scathing attack on referee James Linington after Charlton lost 1-0 to Peterborough on Tuesday.

He accused Peterborough manager Steve Evans of bullying the official, who awarded Peterborough an 89th-minute penalty to snatch victory late on.

There has been little reason for Barton to lose his cool since taking over as Fleetwood manager in the summer. His side are sixth in League One and in good form, having thrashed Scunthorpe 5-0 away on Tuesday.
