Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet was at The Valley yesterday as he comes to terms with relegation.

Duchatelet is thought to have held talks with chief executive Katrien Meire and head coach Jose Riga.

Charlton dropped out of the Championship on Tuesday and the Belgian is facing calls to sell up.

A group of unhappy fans gathered outside The Valley yesterday with a banner that read: ‘Roland and Katrien time to go’.

And the Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet are planning what they describe as ‘massive demonstrations’ at tomorrow’s home game against Brighton. Riga will have discussed his future with Duchatelet as the club prepare for life in League One.

The owner has so far insisted that he does not want to sell Charlton but it remains to be seen if relegation will change his mind.

The club were last in League One four years ago when captain Johnnie Jackson led them to the title.

Jackson said: “I know that won’t sound like much solace to the supporters at the moment, but we have to try and rebuild and recreate some of the spirit that we had that year.

“We have to hope that we can rebuild in the right way and I’ll do all I can to help that process and approach next year like we did when we got out of League One.”
