Carl Jenkinson has challenged West Ham to finish the season strongly so they do not let a promising campaign “go to waste".

The Hammers are on course for their best Premier League finish since returning to the top flight in 2012 despite struggling since the turn of the year.

Sam Allardyce’s side had been in contention for European qualification earlier this season before a dip in form and injuries saw them fall away. But Jenkinson, on a season-long loan from Arsenal, said: “We have had a strong season so far, we had a great start and as a team we do not want to let that go to waste, it would be a real shame if we do.

“I have got a lot of confidence in the boys that we are going to finish strongly.

“We have got eight games to go, and certainly some winnable games among them. We want to finish as high up the table as we possibly can.”
