Ben Davies: Tottenham proved they possess 'winning mentality' with FA Cup victory over Aston Villa

Tottenham proved they possess a winning mentality with this afternoon's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, according to Ben Davies.

Mauricio Pochettino made nine changes to the side that beat Chelsea in midweek, which robbed the north Londoners of momentum.

Villa stifled their Premier League opponents for long periods, with Steve Bruce's side happy to sit back and stifle their hosts rather than attack.

But Davies finally made the breakthroguh with his first goal for Spurs by latching onto Georges Kevin Nkoudou's cross.

Heung-min Son added a second late on to help Spurs book their place in the next round and Davies was delighted to progress following a scrappy game.

"It came at a tough time in the game," Davies told the BBC of his goal.

"We were startling to get sloppy but we got it and then just had to see the game out.

"It's not much pressure," Davies said when asked if expectation had affected Tottenham's performance.

"We expect a lot of ourselves for the standards we've set. We have to have that winning mentality."

Having claimed their place in the hat Spurs can now turn their attention to next week's Premier League clash against West Brom.
