Tottenham will be without the services of Ben Davies for up to six weeks due to injury.

The versatile defender sustained a hamstring issue during Spurs’ dramatic 3-3 Premier League draw at Southampton last weekend.

Davies was replaced in the 37th minute of that contest at St Mary’s and, along with Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, subsequently withdrew from the Wales squad for an opening pair of Euro 2024 qualifiers against Croatia and Latvia.

The 29-year-old had earlier been named by Welsh boss Robert Page as vice-captain to new skipper Aaron Ramsey after the retirement of former talisman Gareth Bale.

Further assessment has been carried out on the problem and Davies is now expected to miss between four and six weeks in another key blow to Tottenham’s top-four hopes.

Richarlison will miss Brazil’s friendly against Morocco after being forced off within minutes at Southampton in tears and it remains to be seen how long Spurs will be missing the forward.

Tottenham are already without a host of key players including captain Hugo Lloris, whom it will be hoped can return after the current international break after suffering knee ligament damage in the win over Manchester City in early February.

Rodrigo Bentancur has been lost for the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, while fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma is recovering from surgery to repair a stress fracture to his ankle. Ryan Sessegnon is also currently sidelined with hamstring trouble of his own.

Tottenham are still yet to resolve the future of manager Antonio Conte, who launched an astonishing tirade criticising his squad and also appearing to take aim at the club hierarchy following the six-goal thriller with Southampton.

Such an extraordinary outburst looks set to hasten his departure from north London, with senior Spurs players not expecting him to remain in charge for their next top-flight game against Everton at Goodison Park on April 3.
