Barcelona's teenage forward Ansu Fati has signed a new long-term contract with the Catalan club which will see his release clause ultimately rise to a staggering €400million.

Fati made his debut as a 16-year-old earlier this season and made a quick impression with goals against Osasuna and Valencia.

Opportunities have been more limited since for the youngster, now 17, after a number of key players returned from injury, but the forward has remained with the first team and was rewarded with a fresh deal on Wednesday.

"FC Barcelona and Ansu Fati have reached an agreement to improve the player’s contract through to 30 June 2022, extendable by two further seasons," the Catalan club said on their website.

"His buyout clause has been raised from 100 to 170 million euros."

However, that figure will rise to €400m once he reaches the age of 18 (on October 31, 2020) and becomes a full-time member of the Barca first team.

Following his new deal, Fati was applauded by the rest of his team-mates in training on Thursday.
