Ada Hegerberg was crowned the first ever female Ballon d’Or winner at a ceremony in Paris on Monday.

But French DJ Martin Solveig, helping host the gala alongside David Ginola, sparked controversy moments after when he asked the Norwegian to ‘twerk’ on stage.

Hegerberg, who has spearheaded Lyon’s triple Champions League success, quickly shut him down before leaving the stage with his comments attracting widespread criticism on social media.

Kylian Mbappe was among the footballers and dignitaries in the crowd stunned by Solveig’s comments.

Hegerberg, who has won nine major honours in four years at Lyon, scooped her award ahead of England internationals Lucy Bronze and Fran Kirby.

Real Madrid star Luka Modric scooped the men’s award with Cristiano Ronaldo coming in second place. Lionel Messi finished fifth, coming outside the top three for the first time since 2006.

Mbappe, who was named the fourth best player on the planet, also scooped the inaugural Kopa award – handed down to the best player under the age of 21.
