Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Diego Costa suffered a hamstring injury against Sporting Lisbon, although the club have not given a time-scale as to whether the striker will be fit to face Arsenal.

Costa was forced off in the 52nd minute of Atletico's Europa League quarter-final second-leg clash away to Sporting on Thursday night after sustaining the injury.

The Spain international underwent tests in Madrid on Friday, which have revealed a hamstring injury to his left thigh.

The news will be a worry for Atletico, who take on Arsenal in their Europa League semi-final first-leg clash at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday 26 April.

The return leg takes place on May 3 at Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

The tie will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides and comes after Atletico edged Sporting 2-1 on aggregate in the last round, while Arsenal secured a 6-3 aggregate score-line against CSKA Moscow.

Costa is no stranger to Arsenal, with the striker having come up against the Gunners on several occasions during his two-year spell at Chelsea.

Since making his Atletico debut in January, Costa has netted six goals in all competitions for Los Rojiblancos.
