Asmir Begovic has singled out Dimitri Payet of West Ham as the one Premier League player he would want to join him at Chelsea.

In his debut season in English football Payet has earned a host of individual honours, including a place on the PFA Team of the Year and a nomination for the Players’ Player of the Year, after a campaign in which he has set West Ham on course for their best league finish since 1999.

Payet’s nine goals and nine assists have helped the Hammers to sixth in the table, nine points ahead of Chelsea, and he played a key role in both of West Ham’s meetings with the champions this season, from which they have taken four points.

Certainly Payet’s form has caught the eye of Begovic, who when asked by Sky Sports which opponent he would want to bring to Stamford Bridge said: “I would go for Dimitri Payet at West Ham.

“He’s a fantastic player, a fantastic talent, he’s someone who I’d like to sign, possibly.”

Regardless of whether Chelsea or any other side were to move for Payet West Ham would be loath to sell, with David Sullivan confirming earlier this month that there would be no star players sold ahead of the move to the Olympic Stadium.
