Arthur Masuaku says he’s prepared to play a "great part" for West Ham, having completed his six-match ban for spitting.

The 24-year-old was suspended for spitting during the Hammers’ FA Cup tie at Wigan, and has not featured since.

During his time on the sidelines, David Moyes’ side has struggled in terms of results with just two points separating them from 18th-placed Southampton, who visit London Stadium when the Premier League returns following the international break.

Having come through the embarrassment and disappointment, Masuaku says he’s ready to return and help the side.

“It was a difficult time, of course, because I couldn’t help the team and with the results we had, it was tough, but now I’m back and I hope I will help the team as much as I can,” Masuaku told the club website.

“In the beginning, in the first week, I was very disappointed for myself, for the team and the staff and for the fans, then after that you have to move forward because it is life and everyone makes mistakes.

“I had my family behind me and nothing has changed. I am feeling positive.

“I can play a great part for the team now. That is what I am thinking. I just hope I can help the team and hopefully we can get the three points, because that would be massive for us.”

Masuaku has jetted off on international duty with DR Congo, but made a return for the Hammers in a friendly with Dagenham and Redbridge before leaving.

Despite having made somewhat of a comeback, and with the game against Southampton coming up, the full-back has warned he’s still not there in terms of fitness.

“I used this game as a training for me to be fit as soon as possible,” he added. “I need games to be at 100 per cent, and I’m not fit yet, so I used this game to help me get as fit as I can.”
