Arsenal team news: Mesut Ozil starts vs Chelsea after overcoming knee injury

James Benge3 January 2018

Mesut Ozil has returned to the Arsenal starting line-up for Chelsea's visit to the Emirates Stadium.

The German international missed the 1-1 draw away to West From with a knee injury but, though he was not pictured in training ahead of today’s game, Ozil has recovered in time to feature against the reigning Premier League champions.

His return is a major boost for an Arsenal side that has been shorn of a string of crucial players ahead of the London derby.

Laurent Koscielny has failed to shake off a recurrence of the long-standing Achilles injury that forced him off in the second half at the Hawthorns, and Arsenal’s defence is also without Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.

Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey remain sidelined.

Starting line-ups

Arsenal XI: Cech, Chambers, Mustafi, Holding, Bellerin, Wilshere, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Ozil, Sanchez, Lacazette

Subs: Mertesacker, Ospina, Walcott, Iwobi, Welbeck, Coquelin, Elneny

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Cahill, Moses, Fabregas, Kante, Bakayoko, Alonso, Hazard, Morata

Subs: Caballero, Rudiger, Drinkwater, Pedro, Zappacosta, Willian, Batshuayi

Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire)
