Arsenal vs Barcelona: Francis Coquelin eagerly awaiting Andres Iniesta test

Francis Coquelin is eager to test himself against Andres Iniesta when Arsenal face Barcelona in tonight’s Champions League clash.

Arsene Wenger’s midfield anchorman is likely to play a crucial role as Arsenal look to contain the attacking riches of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Nemyar. To overturn the odds at the Emirates it will be crucial that the hosts limit the supply line to the front three that largely flows through Iniesta.

Coquelin heads into the clash fully fit and well-rested after missing Saturday’s FA Cup draw with Hull and the 24-year-old is eager to prove his worth against the best opposition Europe has to offer.

“Every player they have got is almost the best in every position,” he told the club website. “Playing Iniesta is going to be tough, but I’m ready for it and I’m looking forward to it."

With the pressure likely to be on Coquelin throughout this evening's clash the midfielder can at least take confidence from the backing he has received from his predecessor in the Arsenal engine room, Gilberto Silva.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport Gilberto said: “He is improving game by game and from last season to this one he is much better. He is getting to know his position well and that’s important because his role is to allow those up front to play while protecting the back four. He will be very important for Arsenal in the final third of the season.”

How Arsenal can beat Barcelona

“He is a young player and what he’s done for Arsenal in the short time he’s been playing has been great. When I was at Arsenal I was older, with more experience and big guys around me. He is proving himself over and over and I hope he is at Arsenal for a long period because for any team to have a player who is willing to do the hard job then it makes it harder for the opposition to pass through your defense.”
