Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates.

Despite dominating the majority of the game, the Gunners were unable to convert their territorial advantage into goals as they spurned a number of chances.

It wasn’t just wastefulness on behalf of the home side, United keeper David de Gea was in inspired form and made countless saves to keep Arsenal at bay until he was finally beaten by the returning Olivier Giroud’s consolation goal in stoppage time.

Although luck wasn’t on Arsenal’s side as United took the lead in extremely fortunate fashion through a Kieran Gibbs own goal, someone must take responsibility for the home side’s failure to capitalise on their long periods on dominance.

For United, the victory marked their first away win of the season and despite the smash and grab nature of the performance, capped by Rooney’s late clincher, Louis van Gaal will surely be happy to see his side display more grit and discipline than they were doing earlier this season.

Find out how Wayne Rooney ranked after continuing his fine run of goal-scoring form and if any of the Arsenal players could hold their heads high after the defeat.
