Arsenal were today trying to discover the full extent of the calf injury Alexis Sanchez suffered on international duty with Chile.

Sanchez suffered what the Chile FA described as a “low grade muscle tear” in training last night in a major injury scare for Arsene Wenger with Arsenal’s first clash after the international break coming at Manchester United on November 19.

Chile have confirmed Sanchez is out of their World Cup qualifier with Colombia tomorrow but say he will remain in Santiago while the injury is evaluated.

They have suggested Sanchez could be available for their game against Uruguay next Tuesday but at this stage it is unclear how long he will be out.

Arsenal’s medical department were today due to hold talks with Chile’s medical staff to find out if Sanchez should return to London for treatment.

The Gunners face four games in 11 days starting with their Premier League trip to Old Trafford. Four days later they play PSG in a crucial Champions League fixture that could decide who finishes top of Group A.

Arsenal host Bournemouth in the Premier League on November 27 and play Southampton at home in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on November 30.
