Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been left out of Ryan Giggs’ first Wales squad to undergo a minor surgical procedure during the international break.

Though Ramsey is expected to start against AC Milan in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie at the Emirates on Thursday night he will not be part of Giggs’ travelling party that will take part in the China Cup, which kicks off in Naning on March 22.

Instead he will remain behind to recover from a groin injury that he has been carrying for several weeks. He is however expected to be available for the Gunners’ next game after the international break against Stoke on April 1.

"We've been in discussions with Arsenal and Aaron," Giggs said.

"He's got a small procedure, it's the ideal time in the break to get it done. He'll be in the squad for AC Milan.

"It's a good time to get this done. It's a blow because he's a quality player but it's the best thing for the future for Aaron."

Giggs has, however, been able to call up Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale for his first squad since being appointed as successor to Chris Coleman whilst Everton centre-back Ashley Williams retains the Welsh captaincy.
