Arsenal player ratings vs Southampton: Gabriel’s worst performance; Bukayo Saka rescues Gunners

Arsenal finally ended their losing streak at home by coming from behind to draw with Southampton.

Simon Collings was at Emirates Stadium and assessed how the players got on…

Arsenal player ratings

Bernd Leno 5

Not a great night for the German, who was chipped by Theo Walcott for Southampton’s goal in the first-half.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles 5

A fairly solid performance in the absence of Hector Bellerin, but nothing special. Feels like a missed opportunity for him.

Rob Holding 6

Probably the best of Arsenal’s defenders. Distribution was better than most and helped Arsenal weather the storm at the end. Hit the bar late on.

Gabriel Magalhaes 3

His worst performance in an Arsenal shirt to date. Never looked comfortable all night and was sent off around the hour mark after getting his second yellow card.

Kieran Tierney 5

Struggled a bit with the pace of Walcott, who was impressive. Recovered, though, and was better in the second-half.

Mohamed Elneny 5

Form has dropped off from the start of the season and he struggled again tonight as Southampton ran the midfield.

Dani Ceballos 4

Hooked after just over an hour and did not have a great game. Wasted a golden chance in the first-half when he went down claiming for a penalty.

Nicolas Pepe 5

A couple of nice flicks and tricks, but not the end product Arsenal needed tonight. Willian will be fighting for his place at Everton.

Eddie Nketiah 5

Didn’t have masses of joy playing up front. Linked up nicely for the goal and pressed Saints’ defence all night.

Bukayo Saka 7 | Star man

Produced some brilliant play in the build-up to Arsenal’s goal and was his team’s best player, as is often the case.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 6

Took his goal well to finally end his drought. The relief on his face said it all. Arsenal will hope it is the first of many more.

Substitutions

David Luiz (Nketiah 65’) 6

Came on when Gabriel was sent off and helped Arsenal see out the game. An important cameo.

Joe Willock (Ceballos 67’) 5

Provided some legs in the midfield, which came in handy as the Gunners were up against it late on.

Cedric Soares (Pepe 85’) N/A

Subs not used: Runarsson, Mustafi, Lacazette, Willian.
