Arsenal Ladies striker Danielle Carter hit her second hat-trick in as many international games as England defeated Estonia 5-0 at Meadow Lane.

The 23-year-old, playing her first match for the national team in nearly a year, scored the first, third and fourth as Mark Sampson’s side maintained their two point lead over Belgium at the top of Group 7, with only the first placed side guaranteed a spot at Euro 2017.

Carter had notched a treble in the away tie against Estonia in Tallinn last September and was soon off the mark in Nottingham, netting her first inside nine minutes with a smart low drive from inside the area.

Manchester City’s Jill Scott struck a second son after before Carter slotted in a second from Nikita Parris’ cross. The hat-trick was complete soon after the break when she pounced on a poor clearance from the Estonian goalkeeper.

“I couldn't have imagined it,” Carter said after the match.

“The first time I did it, it was just a dream come true. This time, it actually feels surreal - it feels like I'm dreaming.

“I'm just happy to get more caps and more goals. I was hoping we could get more and more, like the first time we played them.”

England face Belgium in Leuven on Tuesday, where a draw will guarantee their place at next summer's tournament in the Netherlands.
