Arsenal injury news: Oleksandr Zinchenko absence vs West Ham explained

Late injury blow confirmed by the Gunners

Oleksandr Zinchenko missed Arsenal’s trip to West Ham due to a groin issue, but hopes to be back to face Southampton next week.

Left-back Zinchenko picked up the injury at the end of Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Anfield last week.

The Ukraine international has not been able to take part in full training this week and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta decided not to risk him for the trip to West Ham on Sunday.

Zinchenko was left out of the squad altogether as a precaution and Tierney was handed his first League start since Arsenal’s win over West Ham on Boxing Day.

“He had a musclular issue at the end of the match at Anfield last week, he struggled in the last few minutes,” said Arteta, when asked about why Zinchenko was left out.

“We assessed him, he wasn’t fit enough to play. That’s why we have good players like Kieran to replace him.”
