Arsene Wenger guard of honour: Watch Arsenal manager given a hero's welcome in final Emirates Stadium home game

Arsene Wenger was given a hero’s welcome as he began the final home game of his 22-year Arsenal career with a guard of honour from his own players and those of Burnley.

The 68-year-old had hoped to eschew an emotional send off from Arsenal, but was never going to get his wish and was greeted by the Emirates Stadium for the final time with a vocal chant of "One Arsene Wenger" as he made his way onto the pitch.

For once the ground was at full capacity, most supporters decked out in red and white t-shirts given to them by the club as part of a day of celebrations that included a book of tributes from fans to Wenger and visits from dozens of greats from his tenure.

The Emirates Stadium had been wrapped in a giant 'Merci Arsene' banner while current players had left tributes for him on the back of their replica shirts in the club shop.

Jack Wilshere described Wenger as "like a father through tough times in my career," while Granit Xhaka added: "A dream come true to play for you."

Notably majority shareholder Stan Kroenke had also made the trip to north London, his first appearance at an Arsenal match since the FA Cup Final win over Chelsea last May.
